Of course an 8 bit colour dept is OK if you are using palleted colours. Its the final output bit depth that is important. With the genre of "dark" games , e.g. Kong and Splinter Cell, 16 bit rendering dept do look pretty bad.
Halo 2's blue smoke effects during the game are a prime example of this with the colours stepping rather than graduating, making it look dreadful.
I havn't noticed this on any 360 game yet. Is the 360 finally using 24 bit colour depth (ignoring an 8 bit alpha channel) or are the developers a bit more "savvey" skipping around bad colour choices.
Bit depth doesn't matter too much if done properly. What is more serious is the horrendous texture and model "poppping" that appear on games when the Level of Detail is poorly set up. GRAW is the latest game to suffer from this. Particularly badly in some cases where the enemy are rendered then the vehicle they are hiding behind appears some seconds later.

Well, to give him some credit, it's the first console to do 4D.
You can't beat that!

Exactly. Now they copy MS with world wide launch, harddrive, online service (the description resembles an exact copy of Xbox Live), and now they use the word Live.
I bet they'll get their launch problems like MS with too high demand, not enough consoles and lots of faulty consoles as well.
BTW, Kutaragi says PS3 games will be 4D! Is this the next Emotion engine? I'm sure the games will be exactly like the games on Xbox 360. No difference there.
But it's good to hear they'll get it out. I'm not too enthusiastic about PS3 but competition is always good...

i'd like to see what pans out as truth and what pans out as smoke and mirrors.
as someone who works with technology, i would normally be hesitant to trust the quality of a bleeding edge products. the convergence of so many new things in one machine (the new processors, the ambitious specifications) doesn't have the years of QA to give me confidence that everything has been tested to meet the promises.
but -- the world can still surprise me, and there are some very gifted programmers out there who work on very ambitious projects to create killer app. but sketchy hardware, on sony's software track record, plus a pinch of hype -- all converging in 6-7 months worldwide?
my science teacher once told me that progress is done in increments - and great claims require great proof.

I just wanted to say THANKS for creating such an awesome experience on the xbox360. The gamerscore, the marketplace, the chat features and the ease for developers. I know you guys work hard and get a lot of sh!t from haters out there but kudos to you. Job well done.
Now get back to work and do even more great stuff!

My 2 cents...

I don't know if "Live" is your word when it comes to delivering content via the Internet. Symantec was using "Live" as part of "Live Update" back in '96.

I'd say that Live is more than just a buzzword really. It pretty accurately explains the Xbox Live service, and would equally well explain a (presumably) similar service from Sony. Of course, you guys did get it first, so...
