I have been with Microsoft since 2002, but I have been with Dynamics even longer, starting out with a Dynamics NAV partner in 1992. I currently lead the Partner Programs team in the US Dynamics organization and look forward to keeping in touch with the US Dynamics Partner Community on this blog.
Having a consistent implementation framework is a huge part of your ongoing relationship as a trusted advisor to your customers and prospects. Our Microsoft Dynamics development team is happy to announce the availability of Microsoft Dynamics Sure Step Online!
The development team states two of the biggest benefits of this release include the ability to introduce new content or update existing content real-time, and the ability to point users to a specific guidance page or template, which will eliminate the need for them to download the whole methodology to locate the specific content/guidance.
Microsoft Dynamics Sure Step is a standard implementation methodology and collection of tools, templates, and best practices to use in all phases of a Microsoft Dynamics customer engagement. Microsoft Dynamics Sure Step also provides many process flow diagrams that visually illustrate each phase of the implementation.
To view the latest guidance and content available online without downloading and installing the client use Microsoft Dynamics Sure Step Online. This is a great way to access and share content quickly from anywhere in multiple languages.
Microsoft Dynamics Sure Step can help partners increase their productivity through an enhanced customer engagement methodology. This includes an improved set of best practices and extendable templates that support collaboration with other partners, provide more project predictability, and improve customers’ satisfaction with their Microsoft Dynamics solutions.

While reading the September 2011 issue of Redmond Channel Partner, I ran across Jeffrey Schwartz’s article "Microsoft’s ‘Master VAR’ Program: Dynamics Franchising Revisited". For the past several months I know quite a few partners (big and small) have expressed interest in understanding more about this type of partner program.
As you all know, there is a lot of change at the moment in the market driven by the economy, customers buying behaviors, and disruptive innovation such as the cloud. All these changes have resulted in a high degree of uncertainty amongst partners and customers. Microsoft has reacted to these by introducing the new Microsoft Partner Network (MPN) that will be the foundation for our partners and Microsoft’s mutual success through this time of tremendous change. The introduction of MPN will continued to roll out through January 2012 and beyond, and as a reminder, there are also upcoming certification requirements Microsoft Dynamics partners need to address by October 1, 2011.
Due to the impact of the new Microsoft Partner Network requirements, a potential option for partners moving forward could be participation in the Microsoft Dynamics Master VAR Program. But, we know many of you have questions regarding the program, therefore, we are inviting you to hear the complete story by joining us on an upcoming web seminar happening on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 11:00am Pacific.
Microsoft will launch the Master VAR program for Microsoft Dynamics channel partners this month. Master VAR is a unique partnership model designed to strategically drive growth for resellers and Microsoft through effective intra-channel partnering. Please join us to learn more about the program, whether it’s right for you, and how to participate.

I hold the partner playbook concept pretty close to my chest having launched the original award-winning Microsoft Dynamics Partner Playbook back in 2006. Since then, the playbook morphed into separate ERP and CRM editions as well as a guide specific to ISV’s.
The Microsoft Dynamics ISV Playbook is intended as a resource for you to use as you explore becoming an independent software vendor (ISV) for Microsoft Dynamics. It is also intended as a roadmap for new ISVs as you begin your partnership with Microsoft Dynamics to help you understand the decision points you will encounter as you build your solution, certify it and market it throughout the Microsoft ecosystem. Lastly this document can be used as a resource if you are already a Microsoft Dynamics partner and are considering creating functionality to address vertical market needs.
Microsoft Dynamics ISV Playbook
The ISV Playbook provides U.S. partners a single source guide with information and links to the most current tools and resources available for Microsoft Dynamics product developers.
Microsoft Dynamics technologies help fuel productivity and empower businesses to succeed. You can develop long term relationships with customers and help increase profitability by using these resources to deliver comprehensive business-management solutions to your customers—faster than ever.
As an ISV, Microsoft Dynamics offers [to you]:
ISV Opportunity: Microsoft® products offer expansive business opportunities for ISVs by providing superior value to customers, helping them to maximize their IT investment and streamline processes across all areas of their business.
Extensive Partner Ecosystem: Microsoft is deeply committed to a channel-driven strategy. Microsoft Dynamics is committed to selling through a channel-engaged model. This is demonstrated by the competitive partner business model Microsoft offers, as well as the extensive support provided through resources and tools that help partners offset investments and drive strong business results.
Leading Innovation: Microsoft’s proven commitment towards continually improving its products and becoming the leader in new markets makes Microsoft Dynamics a better platform to build software solutions on for a competitive advantage.
Best of Breed Solutions: Microsoft Dynamics enables ISVs to utilize its advanced base functionality (e.g. multi-currency GL, analytics, database, cube generation, multi-language ) to build next generation solutions to retain your installed bases of customers and generate new revenue streams.

We are pleased to announce the launch of the Microsoft Dynamics Master VAR program. This program provides a unique opportunity for partners to align with a well-capitalized, growth-oriented Microsoft Dynamics partner that has been selected by Microsoft as a Master VAR. Partners that choose to work with a Master VAR will be able to leverage centralized marketing, support, operations and training at the Master VAR level thereby reducing costs and accelerating sales. This program is the only channel collaboration model that is officially endorsed by Microsoft and it is currently only available in the United States.
Factors such as the economy, shifts in customer buying behavior and disruptive innovation like the cloud have forced customers and partners to rethink their strategies. The Master VAR program enables partners to work together to face these challenges. By consolidating difficult-to-scale activities and pooling resources, Master VARs and their associated Sales Affiliates can collaborate to compete more effectively and efficiently. Meanwhile, since Sales Affiliates remain independent businesses, they can retain their entrepreneurial spirit, their leadership and the customer relationships that are the cornerstone of their success.
Sales Affiliates benefit by leveraging shared resources as well as broad expertise available across the Master VAR’s Sales Affiliate network. This frees up resources and enables Sales Affiliates to focus on what they do best, whether it’s sales, technical services, or managing customer relationships.
Master VAR candidates are currently being evaluated and will be announced shortly. Their contact information will be made available for partners interested in pursuing collaboration opportunities. If you are interested in working with a Master VAR or have questions, please review “What It Means for You” (must be a current Microsoft Dynamics partner to access).
If you are interested in becoming a Master VAR, you must meet the following criteria:
If you have additional questions on participating in the program, please email: MasterVAR@microsoft.com.

According to Noman Aktar, US Microsoft Dynamics ERP Director, on the Road to Repeatability Executive Insights Blog...
Nearly 20 million small and medium size businesses exist in the United States today. In order to fully capitalize on this opportunity and focus on driving sustainable growth and profitability, partners should consider adopting what we will call a "Repeatable, Accelerated Business model". This model concentrates on driving greater process efficiencies, increased scale of operations, and sustainable customer loyalty. The end objective is to obtain increased market share, specifically with a target audience, and increased partner profitability. In order to achieve this goal, partners should strive to continuously simplify/streamline their business model, lower costs, and improve bottom line profitability. The highest degree of success comes when you apply this discipline across all functional areas including marketing, sales, and solution delivery.
Come to this kick-off session to learn more about what an accelerated repeatable business model truly looks like and learn more about the resources available to determine if it’s an appropriate fit for your business.
