More on the Korean Trip

Visual CPP Team

Hello.  I’m Ayman Shoukry, Lead Program Manager on the libraries team. From October 8th-12th, Ulzii Luvsanbat & I took part in various customer interactions in Seoul, Korea. The main target of this visit was to update the Korean developers about our team’s strategy as well as presenting the new Visual C++ 2008 features. Our previous blog post about the visit has more details about our strategy and visit goals.

 Here is a quick summary of our activities during that week:

1)      15 company visits & presentations

2)      Visual C++ MVP round table meeting

3)      Visual C++ community event at the Microsoft offices in Seoul (about 130 attendees).

4)      Press Meeting

This trip gave us a great opportunity to meet the hardcore C++ developers of Korea and listen to their valuable feedback on our product and on our vision for C++ development.  During these meetings, we were able to engage with over 350 developers from various software companies.  A common reaction we received from each developer was that  the Visual C++ team is on the right track in terms of our feature investments.  It was very satisfying to know that our team’s strategy was very much aligned with our customers’ needs.

Of course, we have received a number of excellent feature requests to be considered for our next versions of Visual C++!  Among them, the following are worth noting:

·         Improvements in our debugger especially around multi-threaded debugging experience

·         Numerous code development productivity features like VisualAssist has.

·         Better localization

·         Componentized and light-weight MFC libraries

·         Built-in refactoring features in C++

·         Other productivity and agile development approach suggestions.

We are looking forward to the planning phase for our next version where we will evaluate all such feedback

As a final note, we’d like to compliment  the Microsoft Korea subsidiary for how effectively they set up and managed the customer visits.

Thanks,

Ayman Shoukry & Ulzii Luvsanbat
