Touchless medicine using Kinect! What will the Osteopaths think?

Osteopathic medicine, what is it? Osteopathic medicine is a distinct form of medical practice in the United States. Osteopathic medicine provides all of the benefits of modern medicine including prescription drugs, surgery, and the use of technology to diagnose disease and evaluate injury. It also offers the added benefit of hands-on diagnosis and treatment through a system of therapy known as osteopathic manipulative medicine. Osteopathic medicine emphasizes helping each person achieve a high level of wellness by focusing on health promotion and disease prevention.

So, if there is touchless medicine then the Osteopathic Doctors (D.O. not M.D.s but both have similar important roles in United States medical ecosystem) similar to what Microsoft Research is working on, see:

Touchless Interaction in Medical Imaging

Oops, Medical Imaging.  Not TouchLess Medicine.  My bad.  Now this is a good idea for both the D.O. and M.D. as well as technicians and patients.  Don’t know about you, but I think the dirtiest thing in the hospital is the Doctor’s pen.  It isn’t since they wipe them off all of the time but still.  Just think though, doctors and nurses do not have to touch the imaging system!  This will help with maintaining the sterile zones and keep infection down.

If you are looking for that last minute paper for High School or quarter system college, this is the URL, and it is pretty cool.
