China is definitely a challenge. I can't fault people for not wanting to pay a huge chunk of their income for a copy of Windows, nor do I think the company can afford to sell software at a steeply discounted price (else worldwide people will start buying copies from China). The “softer“ approach described in the article does sound a lot more reasonable. Sounds a little cheesy but probably the best thing Microsoft can do is help improve things for China.
